Making Lemonade out of Lemons
Living in Kansas, we adapt to the ever changing weather. Last year, we encountered a "gustnado", "straight line wind", or "tornado" on the back part of our property. We had several trees uprooted. Instead of looking at what was damaged, we looked at it as an opportunity to create a memorable family bonfire.
This isn't our first "christmas tree" fire (named after the shape not based on the wood source). My husband ran the chain saw, cutting longer branches, as we stacked the larger branches for the base and stuffed the center with the brush. Although it looks enormous from this perspective, it was only about 8 feet tall.
The tree stood lonely for several months, while we waited for the perfect opportunity to ignite. The perfect combination of weather and family visiting presented itself. Our niece and nephew drove up from Texas to visit their grandmother. We hosted a gathering at Barn Number 2 with burgers and beer....
The beauty in this type of fire is how spectacular it is and how quickly it reduces to embers. You can go from 30 foot flames to embers in the span of 45 minutes to an hour.
We lost quite a few trees, but turned it into a great family memory.
