Thrifty Thursday-PJs to Scarf

I scored when my son grew out of his cozy fleece plaid pj bottoms.  Automatically I thought, scarf.

After...
Go out and find your bargain.

Monday's Musings - The Beauty Around Us

Life is beautiful and precious, and I am lucky to see it's beauty often.

This spring, when working in my garden, I noticed a momma bird flying out of the cavity of an old cow skull we have hanging on the fence.

After doing a little research, we determined they were a type of sparrow eggs.
A couple weeks later, we were lucky enough to see them hatched, and waiting to be feed by mom.
About the same time, I found another nest in my window boxes.  Our research lead us to believe that these were wren eggs.  No picture of the chicks though.

Built By Bryce - Mudroom Alternative

Check out the Mudroom Alternative my husband (Bryce) created out our backdoor, in the garage.

I must shout this, MY HUSBAND IS WONDERFUL!  He really is the artist in the family. He thinks it, and then is able to create it.  Me, I see it, and copy it.

The shelves  are beautifully built, functional oak. We each have our own cubby.  We have a shelf for helmets, thermos', gloves, etc... Then we have a tall section with hooks for bags, jackets, etc...Finally we have the grated bottom, this is a great place for our rubber boots.
In addition to us having our own 'cubby', we utliized the side for essentials like a papertowel dispenser or bug spray. The top shelves are for those not often used items like party trays or large stock pots.  And don't forget the area for our recycles, just out the door.

Thrifty Thursday-Make Your Own Grocery Bags

Recycle, Reuse....Upcycle...

These are all mantras of mine, much to my husbands dismay.  I often will spend more time and effort than most, than advised, than is frugal....  This is a perfect example of it.

Using old lawn seed bags, sunflower seed bags, an old belt, and inspiration I created some great durable multi-purpose bags.

Here are a couple sites I used for inspiration.

It's in the bag,

What's Cooking Wednesday - Garden Fresh Tomatoes

We are finishing up the last of our garden tomatoes (sniffle, sniffle).

Our favorite way to enjoy the garden fresh tomatoes.
We slice them, cover with a dollop of cottage cheese, then a healthy dash of Krazy Jane's Mixed-up Salt.
Mmmmmmm!
Nothing beats our summer salad, rich flavor, minimal work. Wow!

Already making plans for next spring's garden,

Monday's Musings - The lost art of house plants

As we are getting ready for a 'arctic air' here, I dug up some spring & summer images to warm me up.

Having house plants is a lost art.  To quote my brother "that's so 70's", but I don't care.
I love to be surrounded by plants.  I have many potted, and I love to be creative with their containers, hence the mop bucket.
I also have a hard time trimming and throwing away, so I am always rooting new starts.  I have a wide collection of pitchers that I use, when they are not displaying my beautiful oak leaf hydrangea cuttings.

Let's start a retro-trend, house plants!

Feeling green,
Lori
